This weekend proved to be busy for FOUND with two gleaning events! On Saturday, we visited Oakview Farm where we gleaned beans, potatoes, and a few spaghetti squash. There were four volunteers along with Laurel and Lindsay, the Co-Directors of FOUND. The group ended up collecting 34lbs of beans, 83lbs of potatoes, and 57lbs of squash, a total of 174lbs of produce.
On Sunday, Laurel and Lindsay, along with four volunteers harvested apples in St. Margaret’s Bay. Also in attendance was the Stewardship Coordinator of the St. Margaret’s Bay Stewardship Association, a journalist of the Canadian Press, and a blogger (article to be revealed soon!). It was a very rainy afternoon, but thanks to the volunteers, a grand total of 175lbs of apples were harvested. These apples will be going to the Captain William Spry Library Youth Program and be made into applesauce for the kids.
With the Canadian Press along with us, an article was written and shared nationally! FOUND is over the moon excited about the success of the article! Below are links were the article has been posted so far:
