Laurel Schut, Co-Director (she/her)

Laurel’s interest in food systems led her to complete an undergraduate degree focused on food security in International Development, a graduate degree focused on pollination in agricultural production, and a Faculty Certificate in Teaching & Learning. A passionate educator and strong believer in holistic education, Laurel has designed and delivered a variety of courses at Dalhousie University and Mount Saint Vincent University. In addition to her work with FOUND, Laurel works as an Instructor and Curriculum Developer at Dalhousie’s College of Sustainability, sits on the board of Divert NS, and teaches yoga and fitness classes in Halifax and Prospect.

Lindsay Clowes, Co-Director (she/her)

Lindsay’s passion for local food and food insecurity began while working on local farms in the valley while attending Acadia University. This led her to gain her Masters Degree in Environmental Studies with research focused on agricultural policy at Dalhousie. Apart from her work for FOUND, Lindsay also works full time for the Wolfville Farmers Market as the WFM2Go Manager. WFM2Go is an online ordering and delivery service which is working to create a better local food distribution model by bringing customers and farmers closer together. She is also active on the Annapolis Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Young Business Leaders committee, and is Co-Chair of the Kings County Community Food Policy Council. Lindsay has a deep appreciation for building stronger local food systems which contribute to strengthening food security in Nova Scotia.

Maddi Tang, Communications Coordinator (they/them)

Originally from rural Ontario, Maddi is an artist and communications professional who has called Kjipuktuk home since 2016, when they moved here to attend Dalhousie. Maddi’s involvement with FOUND began in 2018 as they sought ways to tie their passions for community and sustainability together with their interest in art and storytelling.  When not working, Maddi can usually be found gardening, biking, hiking, drawing, or finding other people’s dogs to pet.

Kylee Weir, Events Coordinator (she/her)

Kylee’s love of cooking dinners to share with friends expands to her interest in the FOUND movement. An experienced Volunteer Coordinator with other community groups, Kylee is excited to promote food sustainability and food waste awareness in Halifax. Outside of FOUND, she is probably knitting a belated gift, hiking, or scouring Kijiji for the perfect piece of furniture. Kylee is a naval architect living in Halifax.

Nat Quathamer, Educational Coordinator (they/she/he)

While studying to become a Registered Dietitian at McGill University, Nat began to understand that the food system was not justly serving people or the planet. These systemic issues pushed them towards advocacy work and a passion for providing their community with welcoming, inclusive, and evidence-based education about health and food systems. In their spare time, Nat loves to cook, make music, and wander around the North End.
